What one sees of gay pride parades on television newscasts often ends up on air as stereotyped caricature. But the diversity of revelers is far greater, captured here as people arrived on Av. Paulista.

Many well maintained, older buildings grace the neighborhoods of São Paulo. Residential apartments are generally much larger than newer offerings, however these buildings frequently lack modern amenities such as swimming pools, saunas, play areas, miniature golf courses and an "espaço zen." But how many buyers actually take advantage of these enticements once they're in and settled?

This past week SPTV has been doing stories on the deplorable state of many sidewalks in São Paulo. Many bairros however, possess clean, well designed, even artistic sidewalks. The reason for the huge variation of course, is that it's the building owner who is responsible for the adjoining sidewalks. Readers, please contribute photos of the best sidewalks in the city.

Every imaginable manner of equipment and souvenier for your basic rabid fan is available on the always packed Rua 25 de Março. Or in this case, the adjacent Ladeira Porto Geral. For the team's sake, let's hope they bring home the trophy. Brazilian World Cup fans are wildly, even insanely supportive, but fair weather friends they remain. After Brazil's early elimination in the 2006 Copa, the nation turned on the players like a snarling dog going after a bothersome gnat.

You'll need to understand at least some Portuguese to undertake watching this short video. It's part of an expat's ongoing series covering his favorite places in SP. Take special note of the tortured accent in the Portuguese voiceover.

This week two shiny, clean stations with all the latest options opened on the new Linha 4 Yellow Metro. The new metro line is expected to alleviate traffic on the heavily jammed Rebouças corridor.
The Paulista station platform, accessible from Rua Consolação near Av. Paulista. Glass doors keep passengers at a safe distance from the tracks until the train is at a complete stop.
The interior of the new, fully automated trains is contiguous, no doors separate the cars. Future stations include Oscar Freire and Morumbi. No word yet on whether the gleaming new metro will lure residents of these areas from their bullet-proof automobiles.
